More about the course

Designed by professional dance practitioners, this degree combines training and performance with creative and academic workshops to help you develop the skills you need to become a versatile performer, choreographer or teacher.

Based in our Performance Academy, a regional centre for dance and performance, you will develop your technical skills and explore a range of dance techniques and styles, with continuous training in contemporary, ballet, jazz and commercial dance techniques.

Working in a simulated dance company environment, you will learn from course tutors with extensive dance experience and engage with industry to grow your technical, performance and creative skills as well as your leadership abilities.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points (from related Music and/or Performance/Production Arts subjects).

Once your application has been reviewed, you will be invited to attend an audition-interview at the University Centre (Details will follow through email from our Admissions Team).

If you are a current Newcastle College students and successfully meet the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject[s], you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English or the Level 2 equivalent (ie. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

Work Experience

As a centre for regional dance, our students benefit from strong links with local and national companies and practitioners. You will be encouraged to take up placement and performance opportunities and will work within a simulated dance company environment. In your final year you will lead your own industry-based project, presenting your work across the region.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of this degree, you can progress to a Masters in Dance, or a related subject. If you wish to become a dance teacher, you can progress to a PGCE or alternative teaching degree. Alternatively, you can seek employment as a performer or choreographer within the dance industry.
