More about the course

This Children and Young People degree will allow you to build on the professional skills and knowledge you gained at Foundation Degree level. It is also the next step towards a PGCE qualification if you are looking to go into teaching. You will be committed, motivated, and passionate about working with children, and want to make a positive impact on their development. You will cover topics such as safeguarding, young people in society and equality and diversity, learning from tutors who have worked in a variety of roles in nurseries, schools and education and youth settings. You will develop enhanced research skills by completing a dissertation on an area of your choice.

Entry requirements

Pass or higher in a Level 5 Foundation Degree, Diploma in Higher Education or HND (relevant Childcare and/or Health and Social Care subjects).

You may be invited to interview before being offered a place on this course (this interview will be requested at the discretion of the Childcare department staff).

If you are a current Newcastle College student and you successfully meet the published Level 5 entry criteria in appropriate subject[s], you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English language or the Level 2 equivalents (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

You will be expected to have DBS clearance before starting this degree.
