More about the course

The £250m investment in the wind sector is set to triple the number of jobs by 2030. To help meet this demand, this Energy Engineering degree aims to produce multi-skilled work-ready graduates who are able to make an impact within the energy sector. The only one of its kind in the North East and taught from our specialist Energy Academy, you will develop core hand-tool skills and become knowledgeable in solar, geothermal, hydro and tidal power. Supported by Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Royal IHC, Subsea North East and Port Training Services, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the industry whilst also having access to a working wind turbine.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points in Engineering, Maths and/or Science disciplines.

Once your application has been reviewed, you may be invited to attend an interview at Newcastle College University Centre.

If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully meet the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject[s], you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 (C) or higher in GCSE Maths and English Language or the Level 2 equivalence (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

Applicants must also be employed in industry at the time of enrolment. Mature students (age 21) will be considered only on the basis of relevant industry experience.

Applicants for whom English Language is not their first language are expected to achieve a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or the nationally recognised equivalent.

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

Where can I progress?

Upon successful completion of this degree you can progress onto the BEng (Hons) Energy Engineering (Top-Up) at the Energy Academy, the BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Top-Up), the final year of BEng (Hons) Electrical Electronic Engineering or the final year of BEng (Hons) Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering with Newcastle College University Centre. You may also choose to enter the industry as a junior manager or technician.
