More about the course

Prepare for a career in theatre or on television by combining practical performance training with academic and creative study on our industry-integrated acting programme.

Whether you wish to perform, write or direct, this Acting for Stage and Screen degree will help develop your knowledge and technical skills whilst developing industry contacts. With performances at venues both on and off-campus and a range of workshops from professional actors, directors and agencies, you will experience diverse opportunities which will prepare you for industry.

Working with a casting agent, you will create self-tapes, present yourself in auditions and gain work experience. You will also benefit from strong links and opportunities with local companies and venues such as Northern Stage, Alphabetti Theatre and Live Theatre.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points (from related Music and/or Performance/Production Arts subjects).

Once your application has been reviewed, you will be invited to attend an audition-interview at the University Centre (Details will follow through email from our Admissions Team).

If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully meet the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject, you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English or the Level 2 equivalent (ie. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

Work Experience

As an Acting for Stage and Screen student, you will benefit from strong links with local, national and international companies including Northern Stage, Open Clasp, Abandon Hope, Alphabetti Theatre and Live Theatre.

You will have the opportunity to gain performance placements with local companies. You will also perform in front of paying audiences throughout your degree in our 200 seat performance venue, the Peter Sarah Theatre.

Where can I progress?

Successful completion of the BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen will provide a solid foundation that can lead to either employment within the theatre or TV industries or further advanced studies at Masters level.

Past students have gone on to continue their studies whilst others have gained employment in the industry, performing, writing, directing, presenting, teaching or as freelance artists.
