More about the course

Be a part of the greatest show and combine dancing, singing and acting in this highly practical, industry-integrated Musical Theatre degree.

Alongside theory and academic studies of musical theatre genres and industry processes, you will take part in intensive, performance-based classes, developing skills for the stage. Learning from highly experienced and well-connected tutors, you will experience a range of classes, workshops and audition techniques, enabling you to expand your solo repertoire.

You will be given the opportunity to take on leading roles within our musical theatre productions and perform alongside our Level 6 students in their innovative musical theatre works, performed in a variety of regional theatre venues such as the Boulevard.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points in a relevant subject.

If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully meet the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject, you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 5 or higher in GCSE Maths and English Language or the Level 2 equivalent (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

Mature students (age 21 or above) will be considered on the basis of relevant industry experience.

At Newcastle College University Centre, we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

Work Experience

As well as gaining performance experience, you will work with a range of industry professionals to hone your skills in singing, dance and acting in preparation for working in industry.

Our Workshop Wednesday professionals include actors from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, as well as musical theatre professionals from Hairspray (West End), Grease (West End), Phantom of the Opera and Matilda.

Where can I progress?

On successful completion of this degree, you can progress to the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree at Newcastle College University Centre or another specialist musical theatre school.

Alternatively, you could apply to a specialist drama school or seek employment in a theatre. Students from the Foundation Degree programme have gained places at Arts Educational, LSMT, Mountview, Urdang, Bird College, Performers, Italia Conti, Central and GSA.
