With our FdA Fashion and Textile Design Practice degree, you have the opportunity to choose your own pathway.

Dive into textile design for fashion or interiors and explore the intricate world of fabrics and patterns. If fashion design is your calling, immerse yourself in fashion design, illustration, pattern cutting, and garment construction. For those drawn to digital design, focus on fashion styling and photography, promotion, and communication.

This degree will help you to further develop your understanding of a range of creative disciplines and the contexts in which you can develop work, particularly if you are aiming to develop your own independent, creative business. Explore and experiment with different materials, methods and processes to design creative outcomes to real world problems.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points (from related Art and Design subjects).

If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully complete the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject, you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants who have not progressed from a Level 3 course with Newcastle College will be interviewed for suitability.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English Language or the Level 2 equivalent (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

Where can I progress?

Once you successfully complete your degree you can progress onto one of our one-year BA (Hons) Design Practice (Top-Up) degrees.

Following a (Top-Up) degree, you could also pursue a career in teaching and progress to study onto a Masters or PgCE qualification.

Upon completing this degree, you could go on to pursue careers in buying, styling, creative direction, e-commerce, brand management, copy writing, social media and marketing, fashion communication, trend consultancy, as a fashion designer or textile designer for fashion or interiors.

Work experience

Recent optional extra-curricular trips have included Paris, Manchester, London and Edinburgh to visit national and international trade fairs and studios.

You will also have the opportunity to undertake an exciting work placement with organisations such as Trend Bible, London Fashion Week, Barbour and Oliver Bonas, to name a few.

You will have the opportunity to work on live briefs from industry which will give you an idea of what it is like to work in the creative sector and receive personalised feedback on your work from industry professionals.
