More about the course

This hands-on, practical Graphic Communication degree will teach you the fundamental processes and principles of graphic communication, digital design and creative advertising. You will study key topics such as branding, user design and user interface and apply your learning in a real-life working context by solving communication based issues for real clients. You will be highly creative, a problem solver and enjoy drawing as well as digital techniques. You will be taught by tutors with many years of experience working in the industry and who will support you to develop your professional skills and your ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Entry requirements

Pass or higher in Level 5 Foundation Degree, Diploma in Higher Education or HND (related Art and Design subjects).

Once your application has been reviewed, you will be asked to submit a digital portfolio (details will follow through email from our Admissions Team) or invited to Newcastle College University Centre to discuss your portfolio in-person.

If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully meet the published Level 5 entry criteria in an appropriate subject[s], you will be guaranteed a place on this course.

Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English or the Level 2 equivalent (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy).

At Newcastle College University Centre we welcome applications from students studying new T-Level qualifications.

You will have the opportunity to work on live briefs to gain real-life work experience and develop your professional network. You will benefit from a host of guest speakers from industry.

Where can I progress?

Once you complete your course you might seek employment as a graphic designer, artworker, digital designer or developer. You may wish to continue with your studies and progress onto a relevant Master's qualification or a PGCE if you are looking to go into teaching.
