More about the course

Do you love to learn and want to help others learn too? Develop the confidence and skills you need to become an effective teacher with this part-time Diploma in Higher Education: Teaching in Further Education course.

You will develop your knowledge of various teaching approaches and techniques by undertaking 150 hours of teaching placement work which will see you develop into a skilled and reflective teacher.

You will also analyse the many changes currently affecting the 14+ education sector, enabling you to enter the sector with experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm.

Entry requirements

Successful applicants will hold at least a Level 3 qualification in the subject area you wish to teach.

Please note: It is an essential requirement of any initial teacher training course that students hold at least a Level 2 qualification in both English and maths at the start of the course. This could be either a minimum GCSE grade 4/C or Functional Skills Level 2 qualification.

You must have confirmed that you have a minimum of 150 teaching hours available through a placement as well as the support of a subject specialist mentor prior to enrolling on the programme. The college will provide assistance in finding suitably supportive placements, but these cannot be guaranteed.

Please note: Entry onto the programme will be dependent upon a valid enhanced DBS check which must be carried out by the college in line with government policy.

If English is not your first language, you will require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

Work Experience

You will complete a minimum 150 hour teaching placement in a post-14 educational setting in preparation for employment in a teaching role. You will also receive guidance in professional membership bodies relevant to the sector.

Where can I progress?

Upon successful completion of this course you could progress onto a BA (Hons) Top-Up degree in Education and Professional Development.
