University Centre Cash and Engagement Bursary

You may be eligible to receive a bursary from Newcastle College University Centre. A bursary is a form of financial support that doesn’t need to be paid back. This bursary will help you with the costs associated with studying a degree, whether it’s for travel, accommodation, course materials or anything else that helps you with your studies.

Additional Support

Some students who meet certain criteria, as verified when they apply for one or more elements of the government's student finance package (Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan and Maintenance Grant), may receive an additional £600 which will be assessed annually.

Eligibility

If you are commencing a full-time, undergraduate, Higher Education course at Newcastle College University Centre in 2025/26 and paying the full £9,535 per year fee, you may be eligible for a Newcastle College University Centre bursary. You will need a Student Loan confirmed or a payment plan in place.

Learners are not eligible for a bursary where a third party is paying the fee or the learner is studying a part-time course, a Level 7 course, a Master's degree, or receiving a scholarship or an apprenticeship.

How to apply

Step 1: Make sure you are fully enrolled on your course - i.e. you have signed your learning agreement and have been given a lanyard and student ID card

Step 2: Register for a portal account using your College student ID number and correct date of birth. Newcastle Group Online Student Portal (paymystudent.com)

Step 3: Activate your account by clicking on the activation link sent to your email address.

Step 4: Log in to your portal account, and complete the application that is relevant to your year of study.

Terms and conditions

Where a student withdraws, bursary payments will be withheld.

NCG will not make additional payments to cover the loss of a payment where a student has provided incorrect bank details and those payments enter an incorrect account.

Students must maintain a level of good behaviour and behave in a way which respects the needs and aspirations of others to learn, teach and live within the community of the University Centre.

Payments will be withheld if the student does not achieve the required attendance.

Overpayments are required to be returned on request.

Level 4 Award

£5.00 meal allowance for each timetabled day, via the cashless system on-site, awarded from day 1 of their course, on the condition that there is an active enrolment on the system.
Higher Education Cash Bursary of £400/£1000
1. £400 is awarded to all eligible students.
2. Bursary will be increased to £1000 where the student is in receipt of a full/maximum maintenance loan award from Student Finance – and where their household income is determined to be below £25,000.
3. The total bursary award granted to the student is divided into 10 instalments, with each instalment's payment adjusted proportionally based on the student's attendance percentage for the specific attendance period corresponding to that instalment.

Level 5 Award

Level 6 Award

1) Higher Education Cash Bursary of £400/£1000

£400 is awarded to all eligible students.
The bursary will be increased to £1000 where the student is in receipt of a full/maximum maintenance loan award from Student Finance – and where their household income is determined to be below £25,000.
Eligible students who received a £1000 bursary in the previous academic year will continue to do so.
The bursary will be split into 3 payments over the academic year.
Attendance checks will be made, and where the student is falling below 50% attendance, Learner Support Funds will seek approval from the Head of Curriculum to release the bursary.

Higher Education Hardship Fund

The Higher Education Hardship Fund may be available to full-time and part-time students who are experiencing financial disadvantages. Newcastle College University Centre will assess students' actual need for financial assistance before determining whether to award financial support.

The funding allocated from the HE Hardship Fund is a discretionary award and is conditional on a minimum attendance of 90% at the University Centre.
